Project Description

The specific aim of this research project was to trial an intervention with Australian CALD family carers of people living with dementia (PLWD). This intervention was developed and trialled in the USA and RCTs have indicated the intervention (in various forms) reduces symptoms of depression and caregiving-related stress amongst Chinese and Spanish-speaking carers (Gallagher-Thompson, Gray, Dupart, Jimenez & Thompson, 2008; Gallagher-Thompson, Wang, Liu, Cheung, Peng & China et al., 2010). T

The hypothesis was that the intervention would have a similar effect with Australian based Chinese and Spanish-speakers. The intervention was based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and titled 'Coping with Care-giving'.
