Project Description

A systematic review of interventions for family carers of people with dementia will be conducted. The review will focus specifically on interventions with depression or depressive symptoms as an outcome. The aims of the project are to: (1) assess the efficacy of these interventions in reducing symptoms of depression and (2) provide recommendations for future research, namely the development of an intervention to reduce suicide-related thoughts and behaviours in family carers.

Cooper's (1998) Five-Stage Model of Synthesizing Research will be used to guide the review. The steps of Cooper's Model include:

(1) problem formation;

(2) literature search and data collection;

(3) data evaluation;

(4) analysis and interpretation; and

(5) presentation of results.
