Challenges of Research in General Practice

Prof Henry Brodaty

Project Description

Conducting research in general practice is fraught with difficulties. General practitioners are already under pressure from heavy workloads and an imperfect health system and are often unwilling or unable to participate in research. Projects are often complicated and/or poorly explained; projects may have frequent or cumbersome demands on general practitioners which can reduce the initial consent rate, create confusion during the project and/or decrease the retention rate during the project.

Understanding these challenges and designing research projects accordingly will help maximise the data quality and quantity and therefore research outcomes.
