Dr Eddy Strivens is the Regional Geriatrician and Clinical Director for Older Person Health Services in Cairns and Hinterland Health Service District in Far North Queensland. Eddy is also an Adjunct Associate Professor with James Cook University School of Medicine and Dentistry. Eddy came to Cairns in 1996 from London, for 12 months and is still there almost 16 years later.

Eddy is a Federal Councillor with the Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine and chairs the Policy and Planning Committee. He is also the Co-Chair of Queensland Health's Statewide Dementia Clinical Network and contributes to a number of other local, State and National groups.

Eddy's research interests include Culturally Appropriate Assessment Tools and Models of Service Delivery, including Telegeriatrics, and he has set up services to provide diagnostic and management service to remote communities in Cape York.

He has previously completed a study to validate a brief cognitive assessment tool in the Indigenous populations of Far North Queensland and presented studies on Health and Ageing in the Torres Strait and Cultural Bias in the MMSE.

He is currently working on a pilot project to estimate the prevalence of cognitive disorders is the Torres Strait.
