Project Description

This study is investigating the social-professional networks of all those who provide a service to 12 randomly-selected residents with dementia who experience behavioural and psychological symptoms while living in a residential aged care facility (RACF).  The primary aim is to see if and how the networks influence the care provided, using qualitative and quantitative methods.  The 12 residents will be from four residential facilities, with the aim of having at least four males and at least two with younger onset dementia.

Key aspects to the research are:

  1. Interviews with all parties, including residents with dementia, regarding  the services / care provided and their knowledge of the randomly-selected residents.  Responses will be analysed using Social Network Analysis
  2. Structured observations of the selected residents as they interact with their immediate context and the people who happen to be around during the times of observation
  3. Person-centred environment care assessment of the wing / unit where the three randomly selected residents live.
